There is hope for the future of rock and roll...
I recently went on a road trip to Fenway Park to see the Red Sox with my nephew Sean, who is 19 years old. On the ride there, we talked a lot about music and listened to a lot of music on Spotify. Everything he wanted to hear was rap. Kanye West, Drake, Kendrick Lamar. Now I'm not a rap hater. I'm a fan of Tupac, Biggie, Wu Tang, The Beasties, Mac Miller, Post Malone. But it was obvious that Sean had no desire to listen to rock and roll. I asked him if any of his friends listen to rock and roll. He answered right away - "No". He added, "I have a few friends who know about Pink Floyd." Scary to think about, right? But it's the reality. Rock and roll is dead. Or is it? I saw this video and it made me feel like the game ain't over yet. I'll admit, it's the bottom of the ninth, two outs, two strikes, nobody on base but still, there's still a chance.
Check out this video of Maya Neelakantan performing Metallica's "Master Of Puppets". She's 11 years old. Maya, thank you for reminding us older folks that rock and roll isn't dead yet.
Hey hey, my my....
